What's Been Keeping Me Busy |

Whether it be furniture, scatter cushions, paintings or other crafts, I love to make things for our home. Recently I've been kept busy making a fabric birdie mobile for our bedroom. To be honest the idea just came to me out of the blew, I often just lay awake in bed at night thinking of the different little projects I can do around my house.
My husband and I recently put a few hard and long weekends into making a storage unit and window seating with below storage boxes for our bedroom. We have quite a large master bedroom and as an interior decorator I was getting sick and tired of wasting this amazing room and space we have. It needed a purpose! This meant plenty of building, painting and sewing to be done but the end result was well worth the effort.
So as part of this project I decided to make two fabric birdie mobiles to hang over the seating area in both corners of the room. I thought it would be lovely to sit and read or just relax and look at the little birds swaying in the wind on a warm summers day. Each mobile has eight birds made using contrasting fabric for the body and belly, therefore I needed to make 16 birds! The birds are also finished using black buttons (of course) for the eyes.
The birds are simply hung using invisible sewing thread and attached to the timber t-section painted in a pretty purple to match the colour scheme of the room. Each mobile is also decorated with clear crystal like beads (which I think I dropped all over the floor about 6 times trying to tie off the thread on the mobile!) to add some extra sparkle.
If you would like to make your own version of this adorable birdie mobile here is a free copy of the Lissylane Birdie Mobile Pattern to download and try today!
There are some great variations that can be made of these mobiles such as sitting them on branches and hanging them instead. Or how about even using these birds as part of your wedding day! Decorate the top of the wedding cake with them as cake toppers or sit them by your wishing tree, the options are endless. |
