Melissa from Lissylane on her Wedding Day

Hi, I'm Melissa, the "Lissy" behind Lissylane. Originally I started Lissylane to inform brides of their options for alternatives to fresh flowers for their wedding bouquet. I created a custom felt and button flower bouquet for my own wedding on 1st March 2009 and 2 1/2 years on my husband and I have a beautiful baby boy. My time has now become very limited, and although I love helping brides to make their day special through felt flowers, I no longer have the time to create these custom bouquets.

I however still stand by my belief for creating a unique and special wedding day and therefore Lissylane is a fantastic resource to help plan your big day. Lissylane has a comprehensive, free wedding guide to help brides and grooms plan their very special day and plan it their way!

When planning a wedding (I think this is only something that other brides will know) there is so much to think about, it really can become an overwhelming process. Lissylane is designed to try and eliminate some of the stress related to planning your wedding while giving you some wonderful options you might not have previously considered. I am a firm believer that a wedding should be a reflection of the bride and groom, and that there really are no rights and wrongs when planning a wedding. There really are no must haves for a wedding and I think that this is something that too many brides get caught up in.

QuestionTell us a little bit about yourself...

I Lissylane Artwork Colourful Fisham part of a family of 4, my husband Charles, son Addison (follow my blog at www.pregnancybabychild.com) and our tiger (Ragdoll cat) Fuzzie, living together on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. I have always been creative and right from the word go I was making something, it didn't matter what I had to work with, be it pipe-cleaners to rocks or just plain butchers paper and pencils, I would occupy my time coming up with something new!

During my school years I was naturally into art and loved every minute of it. My art saw me winning different competitions and awards but after school it was actually radio that I turned my hand to (thankfully, as this is how I met my husband). After a few years passed of not knowing exactly "what I wanted to do when I grew up", I finally took the plunge into Interior Design. So there you have it, I'm a qualified interior decorator with a passion for making felt flowers and pretty much anything that looks good enough to eat. However, life changed again! I'm now a full time mummy, house wife and blogger. I think it is probably one of the hardest things I've ever done, but the most rewarding.

My time is now taken up by my adorable little boy. Playing, reading and jolly jumping are all parts of my day. During my pregnancy I started a blog as not only a record of my pregnancy but to share with friends, family and the world. I also have written information to help pregnant women week by week during pregnancy as I found the current information on the web not up to par.

QuestionHow was your wedding planning experience?

I think planning your wedding is probably one of the most exciting and scary things that you will ever do in your lifetime, seeing as you (generally) only do it once makes it that little bit more nerve racking, aiming for perfection. Perfection...something that every bride strives for. I guess that's why a lot of us end up with the "bridezilla" title! But you know what, it's not made easy for brides, it is actually the suppliers that we are constantly forced to deal with that in most cases make planning a wedding unbearable.

As far as planning my own wedding goes, I think I was one of the lucky ones (trust me, I've heard some horror stories). There really wasn't that many problems along the way and I mainly believe this was because I took out the need for all the typical suppliers involved in creating a wedding day. I had what most would call a DIY wedding, from invitations to the wedding cake and flowers, it was all made by either myself or my mum (where I get a lot of my talent from I believe).Melissa and Charles Wedding Day

The cake is probably the best example of what I mean about suppliers turning someone into a "bridezella." I think I must have contacted about 20 cake makers by the end of it all to find that the price of cakes was beyond a joke and so unrealistic when you consider that a slice of cake was going to cost anywhere from $10.00 per guest.

I had actually found someone originally to make the wedding cake and as I was about to accept their quote I get told, "oh no!! I'm sorry, I have double booked myself..." My other issue was that out of about 20 suppliers contacted, less than half actually replied with a quotation. This puzzled me even more, I always thought it was the supplier that was supposed to chase the market for their business, not the other way around. Long story short we went to "Plan Z" as we were calling it, our last resort... to design and make the cake ourselves.
